Goal: Revive potential criminal case involving allegedly emaciated farm animals.
“They suffer; their belly blows out and they can’t stand up.” This is the bleak fate Alabama resident Charles Header alleges fell upon multiple cattle who belonged to his deceased relative, Bo Header. The man has accused Bo Header’s common-law wife, Lisa Hudgins, of neglecting the cattle and allegedly starving them. When Charles Header went to retrieve the animals after he was granted a court order, a large percentage of the herd had reportedly died in an emaciated state.
County prosecutors have responded to the situation by stating that a case of animal cruelty must be built by local law enforcement. Despite Charles Header’s frequent entreaties for justice, however, such a case has so far not come to fruition. Requests to view records related to the case have also apparently been denied.

Dear Sheriff Hurst,
The legal feud between Calhoun County residents Charles Header and Lisa Hudgins does involve living beings who may have been hurt, which must not be forgotten nor dismissed. The allegations of neglect – and the subsequent deaths — of cattle reportedly under Hudgins’ care should be pursued to the fullest extent. If these animals were starved, they likely suffered an agonizing death.
Their loss must be met with appropriate action and punishment if crimes were committed. Any other outcome would be a grave miscarriage of justice and an abandonment of law enforcement’s responsibilities.
