Target: Phil Archer, State Attorney for the 18th Judicial Circuit, Brevard County, Florida
Goal: Impose the toughest available sentence—including incarceration and a lifetime animal-ownership ban—on the individual who allegedly strangled and struck his dog on home-security video.
A home-security camera caught a horrifying scene: a man appearing to choke his helpless dog, Shiloh, while also hitting the animal repeatedly. The footage, described by law enforcement as graphic and distressing, was allegedly discovered by a family member months after the March incident and turned over to authorities. Deputies say Shiloh has since been removed from the home and is recovering with relatives, but the emotional and physical trauma inflicted on the dog could linger for life.
The suspect, already reputedly out on bond for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, now faces felony animal-cruelty charges. According to the sheriff’s office, his criminal history also includes battery—even against a law-enforcement officer. These reported facts paint a picture of escalating violence that, unchecked, poses an ongoing threat to animals and people alike.
Florida law allows for significant penalties—up to five years in prison and heavy fines—for aggravated animal cruelty. Anything less than the full weight of the law would diminish the suffering Shiloh endured and send a dangerous message that repeat offenders may escape with minor consequences. True justice demands a stringent sentence, mandatory counseling, and a lifelong prohibition on possessing animals.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear State Attorney Archer,
Recent reports indicate that a Brevard County resident, while out on bond for violent offenses, was filmed choking and striking his dog, Shiloh. Deputies state that the video shows prolonged abuse, and the suspect reportedly admitted involvement after his arrest. Though Shiloh is now recovering, such alleged brutality can leave lasting scars—both physical and psychological.
Patterns of violence toward animals often precede or parallel violence toward humans. The defendant’s criminal history underscores the urgent need for decisive action. Florida’s animal-cruelty statutes were enacted to deter such horrific acts, yet they achieve that purpose only when enforced to the fullest extent.
We respectfully urge your office to pursue the maximum penalties allowed by law, including a substantial prison term, significant fines, mandatory anger-management and psychological counseling, and a permanent ban on owning or residing with animals. A strong prosecutorial stance will honor Shiloh’s suffering and help protect other vulnerable beings from similar torment.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
