Target: Emma Hardy, UK Minister for the Environment
Goal: Support ban on pesticides deemed harmful to humans, insects, and other animals.
The United Kingdom (UK) has long come under fire for failing to ban pesticides deemed potentially harmful to humans and cruelly destructive to bees. For years, as the European Union prohibited many of the most dangerous pesticides, the UK permitted continued use of dozens of these agents. Fortunately, the tides are changing.
A particularly potent strain of bee-killing pesticides, neonicotinoids (described in this ForceChange petition), will be banned across the UK. Advocates had feared one type of this pesticide, known as Cruiser SB, would still be allowed emergency authorization use. This pesticide completely decimates the nervous systems of bees. But for the first time in years, government officials have soundly rejected any use of this lethal substance.
Sign the petition below to thank the individuals responsible for this long-overdue move to protect environmental and public health.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Minister Hardy,
“This announcement is as sweet as honey. It’s a win for bees, butterflies and all pollinators, as well as every single person in this country, since our food supply is so dependent on them.” Greenpeace UK released this statement following the decision to deny emergency use of toxic pesticide Cruiser SB. Thank you for listening to the concerns of Greenpeace and other environmental and public health advocates.
Moreover, thank you for fulfilling promises made long ago to abolish carcinogenic, unhealthy pesticides and for committing to protecting the environment and every living being sustained by it.
Sincerely,
