Target: Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State
Goal: Demand accountability for security breaches and repair fractured relationships with key allies.
Several high-profile incidents have called the United States’ foreign policy and international relations into serious question. Tariff wars with allies, veiled threats of invasion directed at sovereign regions, and a scandal that las left national security leaders red-faced and allies alarmed: these recent events widened growing fractures in U.S. partnerships across the globe. As a consequence, America may be surrendering its pivotal role in global affairs and, in the process, endangering national security.
The most direct threat to national security occurred when it was revealed that a reporter had somehow been invited into a group chat with high-level security officials on a public platform. The chat reportedly involved top-secret details about a military strike conducted in Yemen. The major lapse in security protocols led to worries about whether other confidential information is vulnerable to parties with far more sinister motives than the reporter.
As the scandal unfolded, the vice president made a highly contentious journey to Greenland: a region that neither invited nor welcomed the visit. The trip came amidst several incendiary remarks from the president suggesting he could resort to military force to take the land he has long desired. The president has made similar inflammatory remarks about the Panama Canal and has even repeatedly provoked northern neighbor Canada by suggesting the nation (which has a land mass larger than the entire United States) should become the 51st state of America. Adding to the tensions with Canada and with other allies, the president continues to ramp up a trade war he started with large tariffs. The conflict has compelled the Prime Minister of Canada to declare the country’s long-standing relationship with the United States “over.”
Other allies are also rethinking their own partnerships with a nation that is increasingly reaching out to dictators while seemingly isolating itself from the rest of the world: a dangerous combination. Sign the petition below to demand America’s supposed top ambassador use his influence to begin rebuilding shattered alliances essential for the nation’s future.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Secretary Rubio,
SignalGate has exposed America’s vulnerabilities to enemies and further eroded trust with allies. Deflection and refusals to take responsibility are not helping. America is currently not operating from a position of strength but from a position of increasing isolation and desperation. Arguing with allies, supporting the goals of dictators, and intimidating sovereign regions will only continue weakening this nation’s standing on the global stage: a standing true enemies will be eager to fill.
You are the president’s chief foreign affairs adviser and this nation’s most important ambassador. Advocate for a full investigation into the Signal chat scandal and advise the president to pull back on strongman tactics that are inflaming tensions with continental allies, with Greenland, and with decades-long European partnerships. The position of secretary of state has a storied lineage that began with Thomas Jefferson. Honor this position’s vitality and its mission.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
