Target: Anthony G. Brown, Attorney General for Maryland
Goal: Commend legal blockade of mass job dismissals that endanger livelihoods and crucial public services.
“Sham,” “lie,” “gimmick,” and “unlawful”: these are some of the harsh words a federal judge used to characterize the Trump administration’s abrupt dismissal of thousands of government employees. This ForceChange petition emphasized the widespread ramifications of the administration’s shocking maneuver and called for intervention. In an increasingly commonplace chain of events, it was the legal system that answered the call.
A U.S. district judge ordered several federal departments to reinstate fired probationary employees, who included veterans, the disabled, and recently promoted employees with years of public service. “It is sad, a sad day when our government would fire some good employee and say it was based on performance when they know good and well that’s a lie,” the judge said during a scathing condemnation. The same day as this ruling, another U.S. district judge ordered a pause on what he classified as “illegal” reductions in the federal workforce. This judge ruled that the administration violated key processes and guidelines mandatory for worker dismissals.
Altogether, 19 states, as well as the District of Columbia, have sued the administration over the firings — with the states’ attorneys general on the front lines of these mounting legal battles. Sign the petition below to support one of the key attorneys leading this charge.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Attorney General Brown,
“Economic dislocation of workers can easily create a cascade of instability throughout a regional economy.” Your colleagues and yourself made this important argument in the cases brought before courts involving the mass firing of probationary federal employees. To date, these legal battles have already yielded meaningful victories.
Thank you and every attorney general who is mounting a fight for justice and fairness where politicians are routinely failing. Keep up the good fight.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
