Cats Killed, Sliced Open, and Disemboweled on University Campus Deserve Justice

Target: Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia

Goal: Encourage the investigation and prosecution of the cat killers and implement measures to ensure the safety of campus animals.

Horrific acts of animal cruelty at Universiti Malaya have deeply alarmed the public. Two incidents involving the brutal deaths of cats were discovered at the Faculty of Business and Economics, followed by additional cases in different locations on campus. Disturbing details about the injuries found on the cats highlight the urgent need for a comprehensive investigation and immediate action to protect campus animals.

These acts of cruelty are not only reprehensible, but are also violations of animal welfare laws and human decency. The killings have prompted students and rescuers to take matters into their own hands, removing 22 cats from the campus to protect them from further harm. Despite their efforts, resistance from some faculties has complicated these rescue missions, leaving vulnerable animals at risk.

It is imperative that the Malaysian Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) and the Kuala Lumpur Police conduct a thorough investigation into these cases and prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent of the law. Clear measures must also be implemented to ensure the safety of stray animals on the campus, including sterilization programs, safe rehoming efforts, and stronger security measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Sign below to encourage the Malaysian prime minister to encourage these pursuits.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear PM Anwar Ibrahim,

The recent cat killings at Universiti Malaya are deeply concerning and have sparked widespread outrage. Cats were found brutally killed at the Faculty of Business and Economics and other campus locations, highlighting the urgent need for action to address animal cruelty on university grounds.

These gruesome acts are violations of Malaysia’s animal welfare laws and are a severe affront to human decency. Efforts by rescuers to save stray cats from the campus underscore the gravity of the situation, yet challenges in cooperation from some parties reveal gaps in the system that must be addressed.

We urge you to encourage a comprehensive investigation into these incidents, ensure the perpetrators are held accountable under the law, and implement preventative measures to ensure the safety of campus animals. Establishing sterilization programs, rehoming efforts, and heightened security will demonstrate Malaysia’s commitment to protecting its most vulnerable beings.

Sincerely,
