Dog Reportedly Starved and Abandoned for Weeks Deserves Justice

A heartbreaking case of alleged animal cruelty has emerged in St. Albans, Vermont. A 1.5-year-old Rottweiler named Hank was reportedly abandoned by Kyle Gratton in a home with no heat, electricity, food, or water for several weeks. By the time authorities intervened, Hank had reportedly lost approximately 77 pounds and was in desperate need of medical care.

Hank’s rescue by the nonprofit For the Love of Dogs Vermont has offered him a second chance at life, but the suffering he seemingly endured during his abandonment is deeply disturbing. Neglecting an innocent animal to such an extent is a severe breach of humane responsibility and must be met with firm consequences to deter such actions in the future.

Animal cruelty laws exist to protect vulnerable beings like Hank, and it is imperative that justice is served in this case. Acts of such extreme neglect not only cause immense suffering but also signal a disregard for the well-being of others.

We urge Franklin County State’s Attorney John Lavoie to seek the maximum penalties under the law for Kyle Gratton to ensure accountability for Hank’s suffering. By doing so, the authorities can send a strong message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated and that the lives of all creatures must be respected.
