End Deadly Violence Fueled by Growing Antisemitism

Target: Emmanuel Macron, President of France

Goal: Prevent extremist attacks on marginalized communities.

A suspect was recently arrested for a reported arson that took place near a synagogue in France. Someone apparently set fire to multiple cars across the street from the Jewish place of worship. Synagogue entrances also seemingly were the targets of arson. A police officer was reportedly injured as a result. Thankfully, five people inside the building suffered no injuries.

Authorities believe the alleged attack was intended to inflict much greater damage. This latest incident is part of a troubling rise in anti-Semitic acts of violence. During the past year, crimes with Jewish victims have tripled.

While French leaders have condemned the crimes and deployed more law enforcement, the root causes of these and other hate crimes need to be addressed. Sign the petition below to demand a concrete preventive plan of action to avert acts of hate-fueled domestic terrorism.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Macron,

“We are outraged and repulsed.” Prime Minister Attal recently made this statement following a near-deadly act of alleged arson at a synagogue. But did the latest attack compel France to take a hard look at its growing far-right extremism problem? A party that routinely trades in anti-Semitism, Islamaphobia, and a host of other racist and xenophobic ideologies very nearly seized political control in this country. In addition to the domestic terrorism threat this creates, France has become Europe’s largest incubator for recruitment to terrorist organization in other countries.

While counter-terrorism efforts are robust, de-radicalization campaigns are still in a growing stage. Prevention in the early stages of radicalization is the most effective long-term strategy for combating terrorism at home and abroad. Please invest more in education initiatives and in public outreach programs that can help halt the insidious and deadly spread of hate throughout France and beyond.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
