Stop Cruel Transfer of Wild Elephant to Stressful City

Target: Atishi, Chief Minister of Delhi, India

Goal: Stop the planned transfer of an elephant into captivity at a temple to prevent potential animal suffering.

A wild elephant, India’s National Heritage Animal, is being brought to a temple in South Delhi, raising serious concerns about animal cruelty and wildlife conservation. Animal rights group World Animal Protection has urged authorities to stop the transfer, citing the potential for torture and suffering of this sentient being in an urban environment.

Captive elephants often face difficult lives, enduring confinement, inadequate care, and stress that can lead to severe physical and psychological harm. The proposed transfer apparently ignores a Delhi High Court order from six years ago to phase out captive elephants in the capital. Bringing an elephant into the bustling city environment of Sainik Farms not only poses risks to the animal’s well-being but also contradicts efforts to protect wildlife and respect animal rights.

It is imperative to prevent the potential suffering of this majestic creature by halting the planned transfer. Alternatives such as using a model or robotic elephant for worship purposes exist and do not involve animal cruelty. Ensure that wild animals remain in their natural habitats. Immediate intervention is needed to stop the importation of this elephant into captivity.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear CM Atishi,

We are deeply concerned about reports that a temple in South Delhi is allegedly planning to bring an elephant from Assam into captivity. This action raises serious concerns about animal cruelty and violates efforts to protect India’s National Heritage Animal. Captive elephants often suffer from inadequate living conditions, leading to physical and psychological harm.

Bringing an elephant into the urban environment of Sainik Farms not only apparently disregards the Delhi High Court’s order to phase out captive elephants in the capital but also poses significant risks to the animal’s well-being. Alternatives such as using a model or robotic elephant for worship purposes are available and do not involve causing harm to living creatures.

We urge you to intervene and halt the planned transfer of this elephant. By preventing this action, you will uphold animal welfare laws and demonstrate a commitment to compassion and non-violence towards all living beings. Please take immediate steps to ensure that wild animals remain in their natural habitats and are protected from unnecessary suffering.

Sincerely,
