Demand Justice for Dog Injured While on the Run for 555 Days

Target: Kristin Mullins, Executive Director – The Worcester Animal Rescue League, Massachusetts

Goal: Ensure that Gracie receives the medical attention and care she needs after harrowing journey on the streets.

Gracie, a dog who was once known as Roxy, has endured a long and difficult journey. After being discovered in the woods of Tennessee, she was brought to Massachusetts, where she briefly lived with a breeder before being adopted. Tragically, Gracie went missing from her new family just days after her adoption on February 10, 2023, beginning a harrowing 555-day ordeal on the streets of Worcester. Volunteers from Missing Dogs Massachusetts (MDM) have been tirelessly working to capture Gracie and provide her with the care she needs.

For over 19 months, Gracie roamed the area, surviving with the help of dedicated volunteers who fed her and monitored her movements. Despite their best efforts, Gracie remained elusive, likely due to a traumatic past that made her wary of traps and human interaction. During her time on the run, Gracie developed a limp, and it is suspected that she was hit by a car, further complicating her situation. Finally, after countless attempts, Gracie was successfully trapped and placed in a foster home with PAWS New England, where she is slowly learning to trust again.

Now in foster care, Gracie remains frightened and cautious, spending most of her time hiding. She will require medical treatment for her leg and shoulder injuries, which will be covered by MDM, who are currently accepting donations for her care. It is crucial that Worcester Animal Rescue and the broader community support Gracie’s recovery and ensure she receives the necessary medical attention. Hold those responsible for the circumstances that led to Gracie’s prolonged suffering.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms Mullins,

I am writing to express my deep concern and call for action regarding the case of Gracie, a dog who was on the run in Worcester for 555 days before being rescued by volunteers from Missing Dogs Massachusetts. Gracie’s story is one of resilience, but also one of suffering and neglect, as she endured months on the streets with injuries and without the care she desperately needed.

It has been reported that Gracie was first found in Tennessee before being brought to a breeder in Massachusetts and subsequently adopted. However, she went missing just days after her adoption, leading to a prolonged period of hardship. During this time, Gracie developed a limp, likely from being hit by a car, further exacerbating her condition. It took the relentless efforts of volunteers and nearly 19 months to finally bring Gracie to safety, highlighting the need for stronger protections and immediate interventions in cases of animal abandonment and neglect.

I urge you to ensure that Gracie receives the necessary medical attention and care to recover fully from her ordeal. Moreover, it is vital that those responsible for her initial circumstances and prolonged suffering are held accountable. By doing so, we can help prevent future cases of neglect and ensure that all animals receive the compassionate care they deserve.

Sincerely,

  1. 555 days! Most of us wouldn’t last that long under such dire conditions. This story speak poorly to the breeder but also to the love and grace of your dedicated people who were out there looking for Gracie and feeding her before she was captured. Gracie must be scared to death. Hopefully she will be able to have another chance at happiness. I guess this shows a breeder is not always the best selection. It’s business to the breeder but love to the volunteers. Thank you to all those who searched each day for months and for those helping Gracie learn to trust and love again! I’m glad you are all part of this world. You bring hope!
