Target: Louise Haigh, U.K. Secretary of State for Transport
Goal: Commit to enhancing infrastructure for electric truck public charging.
Ford recently announced that a plant earmarked for electric vehicle (EV) production will instead manufacture heavy-duty trucks. The automaker has also delayed plans for a new all-electric truck and electric SUV. These developments demonstrate the reticence many auto manufacturers still have in investing in more environmentally friendly EVs. If more commitments were made to enhancing EV infrastructure, perhaps this trend could be reversed.
The United Kingdom (UK), for example, has seen a sharp rise in EV purchases. While the region enjoys a robust network of public charging stations for electric cars, charging availability for electric trucks is badly behind. In fact, only one public charging portal designed for electric trucks reportedly exists in the entirety of the UK. Since more frequent charging is needed for trucks, this deficiency has kept electric trucks from keeping pace with electric cars in terms of purchases.
The trucking industry itself is calling on the government to help close this gap. Sign the petition below to urge investment in infrastructure that can help hasten the transition to widespread EV usage.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Secretary Haigh,
The environmental benefits of EVs are well-known, and the potential for EV technology to transform some of the planet’s most polluting vehicles is enormous. Heavy-duty trucks (particularly when used in industrial transportation) put out an enormous amount of greenhouse gas emissions. And trucks as a whole are undeniably popular with consumers.
With these variables in mind, why does the United Kingdom have just a single HGV public charging point? The road haulage industry is also asking this question and calling for change. Please help bolster the transportation of the future by helping pave a pathway for electric trucks to thrive.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]

Ford is now telling America what they will and won’t do. They restrict some trucks in favor of bigger trucks but no way to charge these massive trucks? Forward thinking at it’s best! With out charging stations electric vehicles can not help the climate.I wonder what Ford’s deal is and with whom? England didn’t think too far ahead either. It is difficult to change yet we need to change ignorer to have clean air to breathe. I resent Big Oil, their lies, and inactions. Now I see a commercial saying plastics are spending billions on updating plastics to help the earth!?! Maybe so but why did it have to take destroying the planet to do it and why now are they being so caring?
