German Shepherd Puppy Abandoned on Christmas Eve Deserves Justice

Target: Rob Bonta, Attorney General of California

Goal: Enact stricter penalties for animal abandonment in California.

On Christmas Eve, a heart-wrenching scene unfolded on a Los Angeles freeway. Finley, a German shepherd puppy, was found abandoned, shivering in the cold. This distressing incident, sadly not an isolated case, spotlights the dire issue of animal abandonment. Robin Jampol from Westside German Shepherd Rescue witnessed a car discarding Finley like unwanted rubbish. The pup, terrified and alone, epitomizes the plight of many animals recklessly left to fend for themselves.

This event is part of a larger, troubling trend. U.S. shelters annually receive 6.3 million pets, averaging 17,260 a day. The rising number of pets entering shelters, coupled with the 920,000 euthanized annually, underscores the severity of this issue. Shelters, including Westside German Shepherd Rescue, describe this as an epidemic, finding animals abandoned in various cruel circumstances. Despite efforts at rehoming, the challenge remains daunting, necessitating stronger legal measures against such acts of abandonment.

This situation demands urgent and decisive action. Responsible citizens cannot stand idly by while animals suffer due to human neglect and cruelty. There’s a pressing need for tougher laws against animal abandonment in California. Recognize this urgent issue and advocate for stringent legal repercussions for those guilty of such callous acts.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Attorney General Rob Bonta,

We bring to your attention a disturbing incident involving a German shepherd puppy named Finley, abandoned on a Los Angeles freeway on Christmas Eve. Such cases of animal abandonment are not just heartbreaking; they represent a significant societal issue that requires immediate and effective legal response. The act of leaving a defenseless animal to fend for itself, especially during a time meant for compassion and family, is reprehensible.

As the Attorney General of California, you possess the power to influence change in our legal system regarding animal welfare. The increase in animals entering shelters and the high euthanasia rates in California are alarming. This situation calls for stringent laws that deter individuals from abandoning animals and ensure they face appropriate consequences for their actions. We urge you to prioritize this issue and work towards establishing stricter penalties for animal abandonment in California.

Our plea is for justice and protection for animals like Finley, who, through no fault of their own, endure unimaginable fear and suffering. We trust in your leadership and commitment to justice to ensure that the abandonment of animals is not just an offense but a crime met with significant legal repercussions. By taking action, we can prevent future incidents and uphold a society that values and protects all its members, human and animal alike.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. The German Sheppard abandoned on the freeway is worse than it appears. To abandoning an animal, especially a puppy, is like throwing a child in the middle of the freeway. People do this in hope the animal will be killed by a car. However, carelessness such as this may also kill the driver of another car as the driver swerves to miss the dog. Many cars might end up being involved and lives cut short due to this type of situation.
We need stronger laws which all states must accept and enforce.
There must be a way to alert people as to what will happen to them if they decide to do something like this or abandon any animal.
