Don’t Let Unchecked Development Kill Coastal Habitats

Target: Commissioner Robert R. Scott, New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services

Goal: Protect New Hampshire’s vulnerable coastal ecosystems.

New Hampshire’s coastal habitats, teeming with a rich tapestry of marine life and serving as the backbone of local communities, find themselves in a dire predicament. Ravaged by relentless overfishing, suffocated by toxic pollution, and marred by unchecked development, these fragile ecosystems are on a precipitous decline toward ecological ruin. The clock is ticking; inaction is a luxury we can no longer afford.

Far from being mere picturesque landscapes, these coastal habitats are woven into the very fabric of New Hampshire’s cultural, economic, and natural identity. They serve as sanctuaries for an array of marine species, from fish to crustaceans, and act as the lifeblood for fishing communities that have thrived for generations. Additionally, these coastal areas are the cornerstone of the state’s tourism industry, offering a plethora of recreational activities that draw visitors from near and far.

Sign the petition to demand that the New Hampshire Coastal Program takes immediate, comprehensive steps to conserve the state’s coastal habitats. Essential actions should include strict fishing regulations, pollution control measures, and public awareness campaigns on the importance of coastal conservation.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Commissioner Robert R. Scott,

New Hampshire’s coastal habitats are at a critical juncture. The degradation is palpable: dwindling fish stocks, polluted waters, and loss of marine biodiversity. The data speaks volumes and the message is clear.

We insist that you move beyond discussions and implement concrete actions. A holistic, actionable strategy is imperative. This strategy should encompass not just fishing regulations and pollution controls, but also community involvement in conservation efforts.

Ignoring the plight of the coastal habitats will have devastating consequences. These areas are more than just beautiful landscapes; they are the lifeblood of the communities and economy.

We beseech you to act with the urgency this critical situation demands. Implement initiatives that will not only halt the degradation but also ensure the long-term health of New Hampshire’s coastal habitats.

Sincerely,
