Target: Eliezer Ramos Parés, Puetro Rico’s Secretary of Education
Goal: Implement air conditioning in Puerto Rican schools to stop excessive heat waves from halting education.
Record-breaking temperatures have been halting Puerto Rican students from receiving proper education. According to NBC News, this August was the hottest recorded in Puerto Rican history, and as global warming has worsened, Puerto Rico has gotten increasingly hot. The students of Puerto Rico received days off from school based on the heat and lack of air conditioning in classrooms. In order to sustain Puerto Rican education, air conditioning must be prioritized, especially during times of extreme heat.
Recent Puerto Rican temperatures have felt up to 114 degrees Fahrenheit, and this is an unsafe environment for students to be in. As Puerto Rican officials have attempted to keep students safe by closing down schools, education may dwindle in quality. Since heat waves have continued to worsen, it’s unrealistic to assume temperatures will improve with time. To prepare for next summer, schools must install air conditioning for the benefit of students and teachers. Demand change to help innocent Puerto Rican students.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Secretary Parés,
Puerto Rican students are suffering because of extreme heat waves. As there is a lack of air conditioning in classrooms, officials have cancelled classes for the safety of students, but at the cost of vital education. Puerto Rican summers have extreme temperatures, and it’s inevitable for extreme heat waves to not negatively impact the classroom. Please demand the installation of air conditioners in classrooms to prevent this educational loss from repeating itself.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
