Combat Erosion and Sea Level Rise With Urgent Coastal Restoration

Target: John Bel Edwards, Governor of Louisiana

Goal: Protect vulnerable coastlines from erosion and sea level rise.

Louisiana, known for its rich cultural heritage and unique ecosystems, faces an imminent threat that transcends state borders: coastal erosion and sea level rise. As one of the most affected regions globally, Louisiana’s coastal areas are eroding at an alarming rate, with consequences reverberating beyond state lines.

Erosion threatens not only the state’s diverse ecosystems and natural habitats but also the communities and industries that call this region home. The loss of wetlands and protective barriers places Louisiana at greater risk of catastrophic flooding during storms, which has far-reaching implications for the entire Gulf Coast region.

Sea level rise exacerbates these challenges, steadily encroaching upon communities, infrastructure, and critical industries like fishing and energy production. This crisis demands immediate attention, as it not only affects the people of Louisiana but also poses a significant environmental and economic threat to the entire nation.

Sign the petition below to demand decisive action for comprehensive coastal restoration in Louisiana, a critical step toward mitigating erosion and sea level rise that affects not only the state but the entire Gulf Coast and beyond.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Edwards,

The urgency of the coastal erosion and sea level rise crisis in Louisiana extends far beyond your state’s borders. We, concerned citizens from around the nation, implore you to take resolute action to combat this critical issue.

Louisiana’s coastline is a national treasure, rich in culture and biodiversity, and a vital component of the nation’s resilience. However, as erosion relentlessly erases miles of coastline and sea levels creep higher, the threats to your state intensify, endangering not only Louisiana but the entire Gulf Coast region.

We respectfully urge you to allocate resources and enact policies for comprehensive coastal restoration efforts. By investing in sustainable strategies, you can protect Louisiana’s wetlands, safeguard communities, and preserve vital industries for the benefit of all Americans.

This is not just a state issue; it is a national concern. Let Louisiana stand as a beacon of resilience against the encroaching seas, a testament to the collective commitment to preserving the natural heritage.

Sincerely,

  1. We made this problem by allowing Big Oil to lie about the future. They alone have benefitted. We are now out of time and still very little has been done to curb the climate crises. The rising sea levels are a threat to your state and to all of us in America. The creation of a plan to work with the climate and for people and all life is a must do! We either come together to make the world safer from this man made crises or we all die. The entire world is in the same predicament and the entire world must work together to get us out of the hell we now find ourselves in.
