Replace Toxic Fertilizer With Environmentally Friendly Grass Clippings

Target: Michael S. Regan, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Goal: Decrease the use of harmful fertilizers by switching to grasscycling when replenishing grass.

With turbulent weather and improper growing habits, grass has been slowly dying off, causing lawn owners to increase the use of fertilizer. Harsh chemicals are present within fertilizer, and they disrupt Earth’s biosphere, and with excessive use, grass is harmed. The process of grasscycling is a good alternative to fertilizer use because of its natural benefits to the environment. Instead of picking up lawn clippings, leaving them on grass to push nutrients into soil can give grass the same effects of fertilizer.

By using grasscycling as an alternative to fertilizer, grass moisture is preserved and weed growth is often prevented. Grass clippings can also help prevent ground and water contamination. The amount of nitrogen in the material helps to fend off pests and pushes nitrogen into preexisting grass, directly benefiting its growth. The clippings decompose on a lawn within a few weeks, providing little-to-no clean up for lawn owners. Grasscycling can also be used on all types of plants and in common household gardens to encourage vegetable growth, and its benefit needs to be highlighted properly.

The immediate benefits of grass fertilizer is outweighed by their harmful components; instead, the use of grass clippings must be used as an environmentally-friendly replacement. Grasscycling improves grass growth, soil health, prevents pests and surface contamination, all through natural means. Sign the petition below to promote the use of grasscycling as an alternative to harmful fertilizer.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear EPA Administrator Regan,

As more and more grass dies off, the use of toxic fertilizer is used. Grasscycling is the most environmentally-friendly option to reduce fertilizer use and promote grass-growth.

Grasscycling emits nitrogen into lawns, promoting growth and reducing surface contamination. It also prevents pests and decomposes on its own, preventing law owners from having to clean up any excess clippings. This alternative adds nutrients into soil, encouraging the growth of healthy grass and invigorating preexisting plants. Weed-growth is further halted because of the components within grass clippings.

I urge you to promote the use of grasscycling in order to reduce the use of harmful fertilizers. Fertilizers diminish Earth’s biosphere, all at the cost of improving grass-growth. Instead of grass clippings being disposed of, they should remain on lawns to replenish grass and emit beneficial minerals into soil and the environment.

Sincerely,

  1. When looking to buy pull-out couches, there are several options to consider. You can check furniture stores such as IKEA, Ashley HomeStore, and Wayfair. Online marketplaces like Amazon and eBay also offer a wide range of choices. Additionally, consider local classifieds, thrift stores, and online classified websites like Craigslist for potential deals.

  2. I am surprised no one seems to read these plights against people. Fertilizers are killing our soil. People were better nourished 100 years ago than we are today. This is s brilliant and effective fix which would help. We should make use of grass clippings for gardens instead of fertilizers. Why not? Takes care of two problem at once and won’t pollute our food or water.

  3. As long as clippings are finely mulched, they will improve the lawn; too thick and they’ll smother it. It can be done correctly. This will also shield the soil from sun and moisture loss, which helps during drought conditions. Stop the toxic fertilizers which seep into the ground and also run off into streams and lakes making us sick. These toxins are also poisoning wildlife on land and in water bodies. We need to “green” our Earth up in more ways than one.
