Target: Mr. Humza Yousaf, First Minister of Scotland
Goal: Advocate for the ban of disposable plastic cups in all cafes in Edinburgh, Scotland to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable practices.
Disposable plastic cups are a significant contributor to plastic waste, with millions of them ending up in landfills and oceans every day. This creates a major environmental issue, as plastic takes hundreds of years to break down and causes significant harm to marine life and the ecosystem.
In Edinburgh, cafes serve hundreds of disposable plastic cups every day, contributing significantly to the city’s plastic waste. To address this issue, it is imperative to take action and ban the use of disposable plastic cups in all cafes in Edinburgh.
The ban on disposable plastic cups in cafes would promote the use of reusable cups and encourage sustainable practices. This would not only benefit the environment but also promote a more eco-conscious culture among the citizens of Edinburgh.
Furthermore, the implementation of this ban would support the Scottish government’s wider commitment to tackle climate change and promote a sustainable future.
Sign below and demand a leader reduce plastic waste and protect our environment by banning the use of disposable plastic cups in all cafes.

Here we go again with the plastics. OF COURSE they are a danger! They don’t disappear but very slowly break down into microplastics which are in our water, our soil and in our bodies. Remember that plastic is made from oil and oil is polluting our planet starting with exploration and extraction and on into all its forms and uses. We can’t afford to ignore the dangers anymore. We can’t solve the oil-for-energy situation right now, but we can certainly stop the single-use plastic problem. Ending the use of plastics in Scotland’s restaurants won’t solve the problem. A worldwide ban is needed.
