Ban Brutal Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides

Target: Mayor Eric Adams, New York City, United States

Goal: Ban horse-drawn carriage rides and replace them with electric or human-powered alternatives to improve animal welfare and reduce air pollution.

Horse-drawn carriages have been a part of the tourism industry in New York City for decades. However, this traditional practice has come under scrutiny due to concerns about animal welfare and air pollution. The horses that are used to pull the carriages often work long hours in busy and noisy streets, which can lead to stress, injury, and illness. Additionally, the horse-drawn carriages contribute to air pollution in the city, which can have negative effects on both human and animal health.

The usage of horse-drawn carriages for tourists in New York City must be outlawed right away. By doing this, the ecosystem of the city will be preserved while simultaneously ensuring the welfare of the horses.

We can provide tourists dependable, sustainable solutions while also encouraging the usage of green transportation by implementing electric or human-powered alternatives. Horse-drawn carriages can be replaced with bicycles or electric vehicles that are more eco-friendly and efficient without sacrificing the charm and uniqueness of the experience.

Demand that the use of horse-drawn carriages for tourism be outlawed and replaced with electric or human-powered options.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mayor Adams,

I am writing to urge you to advocate for the ban of horse-drawn carriages for tourism in New York City and replace them with electric or human-powered alternatives. The use of horse-drawn carriages for tourism has long been a tradition in the city, but it is time to consider more humane and sustainable options.

The horses that are used to pull the carriages often work long hours in busy and noisy streets, which can lead to stress, injury, and illness. This is unacceptable and poses a serious threat to their welfare. In addition, the horse-drawn carriages contribute to air pollution in the city, which has negative effects on both human and animal health.

To address these issues, we must take action to ban the use of horse-drawn carriages for tourism and replace them with electric or human-powered alternatives. This will provide a more sustainable and humane option for tourists while promoting the use of eco-friendly transportation. Electric carriages or bicycles can provide a safer and more efficient alternative to horse-drawn carriages, without compromising on the charm and character of the experience.

We urge you to take immediate action and support the ban of horse-drawn carriages for tourism in New York City.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  2. sIMONE dUGUAY says:

Damn HUMANS! not able AT all to take care of these horses! They prefer to abuse them the most possible! Where are they going this way??????

  3. Adams is a shitty mayor – possibly the worst one New York ever had. Yeah, he’s vegan – for his own selfish health. Couldnt’ care less about animals – has done NOTHING to help ANY of them in NY.

  4. This goes on and on its endless, petition after petition. Thousands and thousands of people oppose so many animal abuses things we read break our hearts. Another petition somewhere else in the world, the most atrocious violations of animal rights. What happens? Do these work? Am beginning to lose heart to be honest. Dogs and cats still being tortured for consumption horses pulling carriages full of fat tourists. On and on.

  5. Jeanne Bradbury says:

We’ve been fighting this outrageous abuse of carriage horses since the 1980’s when Peggy Parker’s leadership got Bill ’88 passed to at least confine Carriage Horses to Central Park, when EVERYONE except the untrained, corrupt carriage owners succeeded in paying off City Council members and even Inspectors charged with monitoring stable conditions. IT’S LONG OVERDUE TO STOP THIS OUTRAGE SO THE CARRIAGE OWNERS CAN MAKE A FORTUNE ON THE SUFFERING OF HORSES ON NYC STREETS!!!!

  6. HOW MANY NYC MAYORS AND CITY COUNCEL MEMBERS WILL IT TAKE BEFORE SUFFERING CARRIAGE HORSES ARE SAVED FROM THE GREEDY CARRIAGE OWNERS AND THEIR UNTRAINED DRIVERS???? THIS IS BLATANT ANIMAL ABUSE IN PLAIN SIGHT!!

  7. HOW LONG BEFORE WE HAVE A MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL WHO HAVE THE STONES TO STOP THIS OUTRAGE!!! HORSES DO NOT BELONG IN TRAFFIC!!! HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO WITNESS THESE HORSES SUFFERING ON NYC STREETS BECAUSE OF THE EXPLOITIVE CARRIAGE OWNERS AND IGNORANT TOURISTS THINK IT’S “QUAINT” TO SUBJECT HORSES TO THE HORRORS OF NYC TRAFFIC???

  8. I have been inside the “barns”. I have spoken to the driver/organizers. The barns are absolutely horrible. The drivers who represent the industry are the most godawful abusive people. The practice needs to end. Th e horses do NOT receive decent medical care. Walking on hard pavement, in extreme weather is brutal. They claim the animals are sent to rest upstate and retire to an idyllic farm. That us nonsense. The sanctuaries they tout, one was shut down, the other is grossly underfunded. It’s all lies. The drivers are impoverished. How could they possibly care for a horse? Every year horses collapse and die. For Christ sake, all you have to do is look at them. What rules that exhist are ignored. It is a preditory, corrupt, cruel business. It is animal torture. Please don’t patronize carriages and please pressure your representatives to end it.

  9. It’s disgusting that after ALL the horrific and torturous deaths of carriage horses have occurred on NYC streets, this still is allowed! SICK! NYC is evil to animals!

  10. Maria Lavorato says:

    Stop this abuse already!

Anyone having a horse drag their fat ass around is just as guilty as those that get paid to employ horses in this cruel, greedy, selfish way!

It is 2023! THIS IS NO LONGER NECESSARY! TOURISTS CAN GET BY ON THEIR OWN STEAM!!

LOOK AT THE HORSES EYES! THEY ARE MISERABLE!
STOP THIS IMMEDIATELY! THIS SHOWS WHAT KIND OF A INHUMANE, HEARTLESS CITY YOU RUN AND ARE!!!

  11. Stop the greedy exploitation of horses. This filthy and exploitative “business” needs to be shutdown! It’s disgusting and inhumane!

  12. These horrendously cruel ‘rides’ MUST be banned. Boycott them.

  13. These may have been necessary over 100 years ago but it’s 2023 and these horses are exposed to exhaust fumes, hot pavement, loud noises and the horses don’t deserve this kind of stress. Get rid of carriage rides and send the horses to sanctuaries!

  14. Animal vigilante says:

DECADES LONG HORSE OWNER AND ADVOCATE. CARRIAGE SERVICES ARE SOME OF THE MOST GREEDY, CRUEL, ABUSIVE HORSE OWNERS. AT VERY BEST, THE HORSES ARE STILL WORKING IN WEATHER EXTREMES– HIGH HEAT AND HUMIDITY BEING THE WORST, OFTEN LONG TIMES WITHOUT WATER. PULLING OVERWEIGHT LOADS. STANDING AND WALKING ON ANY FOOTING OTHER THAN SAND, GRAVEL, GRASS IS EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE AND HORRIBLY BAD FOR THE HEALTH AND COMFORT OF THEIR FEET AND LEGS–THINK ALSO POLICE HORSES. PLEASE STOP THIS CRUELTY NOW!!!

  15. Shirley Lemieux says:

I support this Petition and would support alternatives for example an antique Royals Royce ride through the city streets.

  16. Agree all comments.

  17. Wendy+Morrison says:

BAN ALL HORSE DRIVEN CARRIAGES, WAGON, BUCKBOARDS, AND ALL OTHER WAYS FOR HORSES FOREVER!!!!
MAKE CRUEL, ABUSIVE, AND STUPID HUMANS PULL OTHER PEOPLE IN CARRIAGES, WAGONS, BUCKBOARDS, AND ALL OTHER TYPES OF VEHICLES ON WHEELS!!!!
ANIMAL CRUELTY AND ABUSE AT ITS BEST which BEEDS TO STOP IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!

  18. Vivian Vetere says:

I have called the NYC council woman, Adrienne Adams, numerous times, donated hundreds of dollars, signed numerous petitions on this topic to no avail. I am a former New York City resident and a horse owner and lover. Please end this inhumane practice. I am glad I left NYC 35 years ago. The present mayor is a moron!

  19. This abuse has got to stop. We’ve all signed many petitions, but it still goes on. Damn greedy people who keep the business alive. My heart hurts for the poor horses who are forced to endure this horrible suffering. 😢

  20. We have to persist and continue to voice out for these beautiful defenseless animals. Keep the pressure on and shame on you NYC or abusing and using animals for profits
