A bloodied dog named Atlas was found wandering the streets. His face was gashed, bruised, and bleeding. His eyes were nearly swollen shut.
When rescuers arrived, Atlas was barely able to see and was experiencing blood loss and other internal injuries. Atlas was found wandering aimlessly in a parking lot in Pompano Beach.
Rescuers, from both South Florida Cats and Kittens and I Heart, assumed custody of Atlas and rushed him to a veterinary hospital where he received treatment for his extensive injuries.
According to representatives from I Heart, Atlas’ injuries are consistent with being used as a “bait dog” in a dog fighting ring. He does not appear to have been hit by a car.

Florida is not a dog friendly state and neither is the legal system. There are a lot of Dave’s there that do dog fighting back in their countries. It need to stop, is hideous and the legal system needs to crack down on this.

We must help dogs like Atlas. They have been more than abused. Dog fighting is against the law yet Florida does nothing. Everything gets lost in the system. Yet there is a ring out there and somewhere close but these police can’t find it? Why? There’s money involved. It’s always money. Resources need to be used to find this dog fighting ring. They need to pay for the vet care and housing for Atlas. I am angry that the law overlooks this horror but allows for people to foot the bill for these traumatized animals. People, nice people, always foot the bill for the criminals. This is criminal activity and needs to be brought to justice!
It’s way past time to take dog fighting seriously and to find, arrest and jail these scum bags who force innocent animals to fight for their lives to amuse themselves; that is sick and depraved and anyone participating is a psycho and does not belong in a civilized society. Make examples of the people who do this, actually punish them and let others know that you will find them too. Turning a blind eye to this will just encourage more of the same, find and jail these sick freaks.

Dog fighting is usually part of a larger crime organization. The punishment/jail time/fines need to show this. Take away their $$$ and freedom and maybe folks will think twice before participating in this crap. Plus, animal abuse is a trait of psychopaths. A lot of animal abusers escalate to abuse of humans, if they aren’t already abusing people.
