Target: Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter
Goal: Thank social media company for decision to flag Trump’s misleading tweets with fact-checking labels.
Twitter has started adding fact-checking labels to the biased, misleading, and often outright erroneous tweets issued by President Donald Trump. The president has threatened to retaliate by stripping the rights of social media companies, but Twitter has not backed down.
This is a step in the right direction for the social media giant, which has drawn criticism in the past for giving the president a platform for misinformation. Thanks to pressure from activists and concerned citizens, such as those that signed this ForceChange petition, Twitter is finally starting to make progress in mitigating President Trump’s dangerous disregard for facts. Sign below to thank them for taking this important step.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Mr. Dorsey,
Since 2016, Donald Trump has been using your platform and his status as president to spread misinformation and stir up baseless rumors. He has used Twitter to spout falsehoods, mislead voters, degrade colleagues, demean women, and even propagate dangerous lies about the coronavirus.
In light of this, your decision to introduce fact-checking labels on some of his more egregiously inaccurate tweets is a step toward reducing the harm caused through your platform. President Trump is not a private citizen, and his tweets carry an impact that can literally end lives and start wars. I applaud you for taking action to call out his online fabrications and helping protect the American people from misinformation.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
