Success: Ban on Transgender Children’s Medical Care Fails

Target: Kris Langer, Majority Leader for South Dakota State Senate

Goal: Praise South Dakota State Senate for refusing to discriminate against transgender children.

A proposed ban on transgender children receiving necessary medical care has been stopped by the state’s senate. Despite a Republican majority in the legislature, the state’s senate committee decided not to even vote on the bill at all, despite it having passed the house.

Thanks to pressure from people in South Dakota and petitions like ours on ForceChange, the bill is dead.

This means, at least for now, that transgender children won’t have to worry about not receiving the medical care they need, and physicians won’t have to think about potentially being charged with crimes for helping these kids. This is a big victory for anyone who cares about human rights in this country. Sign our petition to thank the South Dakota State Senate for making the right decision when it comes to civil rights.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senate Majority Leader Langer,

Your refusal to allow discrimination against transgender children was the right decision. Voting on the side of discrimination is never the right decision, and by refusing to even allow the bogus bill to come to a vote, you take a clear stand against that sort of transphobia in your state.

Whether you made your decision based on support for the transgender community, or simply because of your ideals in regards to government interference, the end result is a better future for people in South Dakota. Thank you for making the right call for the people of your state.

Sincerely,

[ Your Name Here ]
