Target: William J. Doyle, Chair of Georgetown University’s Board of Directors
Goal: Praise university for divesting from fossil fuels and supporting renewable energy.
Georgetown University has pledged its commitment to a fossil fuel-free world by no longer investing its endowment funds in fossil fuel companies. This is a big win for renewable energy and those who signed this ForceChange petition. Thank those who went above and beyond to support renewable energy and fight climate change.
“Divestment allows us to divert more capital to fund development of renewable energy projects that will play a vital role in the transition away from fossil fuels — part of the long-term solution required to prevent the most dangerous effects of climate change,” stated Michael Barry, Georgetown University’s chief investment officer. This decision was driven by a student vote and the pressure of activists who have fought to promote interdisciplinary studies of sustainability issues on campus and reduce the university’s greenhouse gas emissions and waste. These efforts have also succeeded and this divestment, approved by the board of directors, makes Georgetown University a leader in the fight against climate change and the fossil fuel industry.
Sign below and thank those who voted in favor of this divestment from fossil fuels and paved the way for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly campus.
