Success: Nicki Minaj Cancels Performance in Saudi Arabia

Target: Nicki Minaj

Goal: Thank Nicki Minaj for cancelling her concert in Saudi Arabia

Nicki Minaj announced that she has cancelled her concert in Saudi Arabia after backlash against the event from humans rights activists everywhere, including here on ForceChange. She had previously been scheduled to perform at the Jeddah World Fest, taking place on July 18. Thanks to pressure from activists, including a petition by our own Keri Ann, Minaj has pulled out of the event.

This is a big victory for human rights activists. Celebrity figures like Nicki Minaj have the power to stand for big things, but we as a group have the power to create real change. Getting Nicki Minaj to cancel the concert means our collective voices are being heard. In the future, artists like Minaj will take human rights issues into stronger consideration before deciding where to play concerts.

Cruel regimes like Saudi Arabia’s government don’t deserve the support of anyone, especially celebrities who have the biggest platforms. They are opponents to the rights of women and LGBTQ+ people everywhere, and we won a major victory. Give yourself a pat on the back for being a big part of making a difference, and thank Nicki Minaj for cancelling her concert.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ms. Minaj,

Human rights activists everywhere would like to extend our thanks to you for cancelling your concert in Saudi Arabia. As a major star, you have a bigger platform than almost anyone to use your voice for real good. Deciding against performing for the cruel dictatorship in Saudi Arabia shows the world that these kind of governments should not be tolerated, and that you want to be on the right side of fighting against these injustices.

Thank you for joining your voice with ours and deciding against supporting their cruelty. Decisions like this are important and help to make the world a better place. More celebrities will follow your example and every right decision is a step in the right direction. The United States as a whole should be not be supportive of this kind of evil, and you made the right choice. Thank you for being on the side of human rights.

Sincerely,
