Success: Environment Protected by Fracking Ban

Target: State Representative Tina Kotek, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Oregon

Goal: Applaud decade-long ban on fracking.

The natural landscape of Oregon and the endangered species that call it home are protected, at least for the next ten years. The State House of Oregon has put a decade-long halt on fracking in order to explore the controversial procedure.

Petitions across the web, including several on ForceChange like this one, have pleaded for fracking to come to an end. The practice of extracting natural gas from deep below the earth’s surface has been known to cause earthquakes, pollute water, kill species, destroy landscapes, and lead to human health hazards.

Oregon is the latest state to enact a ban on fracking, but hopefully it won’t be the last. Sign the petition to thank the state’s House for taking a stand.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Speaker Kotek,

Thank you for taking a stand to protect Oregon’s wild lands and wildlife from the destructive, deadly consequences of fracking. You have listened to the voices of millions in your state and around the world.

The damage that fracking causes to our planet is irreversible. I only hope that other states follow your lead and outlaw this practice before it is too late.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
