Target: Gerry Connelly, U.S. Representative from Virginia
Goal: Demonstrate our gratitude for holding President Trump accountable for his support of hate groups.
President Trump has taken a supportive approach to hate group acts of violence in the past few months. The American people have spoken out against his soft approach and demanded these acts be considered “domestic terrorist attacks.” In recognition of this, Congress has passed a resolution condemning white supremacist violence and calling on the Trump administration to take stronger action against these hate groups. The congressional resolution passed in both the House and Senate early this week and calls the death of Heather Heyer an act of domestic terrorism. Heather Heyer was killed and several others injured when a suspected white supremacist drove into anti-racist demonstrators in Charlottesville, Virginia. A man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and other criminal accounts in the incident.
According to The Huffington Post, “it [the resolution] also urges Attorney General Jeff Sessions to investigate acts of violence and intimidation by white-nationalists, neo-Nazis, the Klu Klux Klan and similar groups.” It is no secret how President Trump feels about violence, as was evidenced by the many altercations and acts of mob violence during his campaign crusades in 2016 prior to his win. Within 10 days of his election, hate crimes surged across the country and rose by an alarming 900 incidents, according to The New York Times. This trend has continued over the past nine months, and the people are fed up with the lies and cover-ups and are speaking out, as evidenced in this petition on ForceChange.
Sign this petition and thank Congress for holding President Trump accountable for his soft approach to domestic terrorism.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Representative Connelly,
In the past nine months, our country has been ravaged and bullied by hate groups and our president. President Trump’s blatant support of hate groups and domestic terrorism has caused a surge of hate crimes in this country since his election. The resolution passed by Congress demanding the president denounce hate groups sends an important message that the American people will not allow our president to support such acts of hate and violence.
We would like to thank you for your courage and the courage of your fellow congressmen and women for standing up against hate groups and a bully president and standing for the victims of these hateful acts of violence, for their memory and honor. We want to encourage you to continue to show this president that dictatorial mannerisms and conduct will not be tolerated in this country. Thank you for your bravery and patriotism in this matter.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
