Success: EPA Comments Demand Continued Protection

Target: EPA Commenters and the ForceChange Community

Goal: Praise those who commented demanding the continued and strengthened preservation of clean air and water.

The EPA has been trying to remove regulations ensuring clean air and water following an executive order by President Trump, but received quite a different message during its recent comment period. After petitions like this one demanded the EPA meaningfully listen to commenters, the agency received over 55,000 comments, the vast majority of which support current regulations keeping pollution in check. Despite the hurdles Administrator Pruitt put up to discourage comments, the citizens of this great nation fought back and demanded the EPA uphold its mission to protect the environment and the people that rely on it.

Many of the comments reminded Pruitt that the regulations are in place for a reason, and recalled a past of dirty waters and polluted skies. One commenter pointed out that regulations to preserve healthy ecosystems and communities save money and lives, and that the current rules are “critically important” to ensuring “mankind’s economic prosperity, quality of life, and freedom.” Thanks to the vast majority of comments like these supporting environmental regulations, the EPA will have to listen, and those who contributed deserve praise for it.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear EPA Commenters,

I write today to thank you for your comments in support of EPA regulations that protect clean air and water, and would like you to know how much it means to people like me. Since the beginning of the Trump administration, many across the country have been concerned that the democratic process of rulemaking in this country would go by the wayside as deregulation to serve corporate interests became law of the land, but your words show that the hope for a clean, healthy future in America lives on.

Mr. Pruitt put up many roadblocks to the exercise of public comment during his quest to remove regulations that require businesses to clean up their acts in the U.S., but you endured to ensure the agency heard your demands for stronger regulation. I commend you for your part in the fight against the environmental pollution that threatens us all, and promise to stand with you to preserve the clean air and water every person deserves.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
