Target: John McCain, Republican Senator of Arizona
Goal: Applaud Democratic victory in shutting down Republican bid to roll back methane pollution laws.
An attempt by Republicans to repeal methane pollution laws was officially rejected by the Senate after three GOP senators voted against it — a narrow victory, but a victory nonetheless. Community efforts, including petitions like this one on ForceChange, demanded the laws be kept in place. This is a small victory in the grand scheme of things, but a very important one in the face of the Trump administration’s anti-environmental agenda. Arizona Senator John McCain in particular helped make this possible; Senators Lindsey Graham and Susan Collins had intended to vote for the repeal, but McCain’s defection convinced them to do otherwise.
McCain deserves much praise for thinking beyond monetary gain and Trump’s greed, and voting for the safety of our planet. Sign this petition to thank Senator McCain for helping to turn the vote the right way.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Senator McCain,
Thank you for helping to secure a victory for the environment. The Republican party, seeking to repeal the laws against methane pollution, has lost their chance to allow drilling on public lands, which had been enabling methane emissions that harm not only the environment but the wildlife and people living near these lands as well. Thanks to this victory, we will be able to literally breathe easier, and public lands will be protected.
It is important that the Senate vote their conscience instead of simply doing what the Trump administration expects them to do. We all live on this planet, and every human being deserves to breathe clean air. Your decision helped to convince two other Republican senators of this, and we thank you.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
