Target: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer
Goal: Applaud preservation of federal arts funding in new spending bill.
Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Protect Arts, Humanities, and Public Media from Trump, Democrats in Congress have protected arts funding that was under threat of extreme cuts from the Trump administration. This funding includes money that goes towards NPR and PBS.
Congress will soon vote on the next government spending bill, which funds the government for the current fiscal year. While the full budget proposal for next year could reverse the arts funding decision, the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, among other agencies, will be protected from funding cuts until September.
Public access to the arts is incredibly important and does not take up enough of the federal budget to warrant cuts. Add your name below to show your support for federal arts funding and thank Senate Democrats for preserving this funding.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Senator Schumer,
Congress is expected to vote soon on the next government spending bill. The original budget proposed by the Trump administration included severe cuts to arts agencies like PBS, NPR, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Congressional Democrats have preserved funding for these agencies through at least September.
I want to thank you for the part you played in preserving funding for these important programs. Cuts to the NEA and similar agencies are completely unnecessary, considering the tiny fraction they represent of the overall federal budget. Thank you for protecting arts funding, and please continue to fight for the arts in your work in the Senate.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
