Target: Florida State Attorney Jeff Ashton
Goal: Celebrate firing of attorney who made insensitive and racially charged comments about the Orlando massacre.
The Florida assistant state attorney who made derogatory comments about the city of Orlando in the immediate aftermath of the Pulse nightclub massacre has been fired for his insensitive remarks. Thanks to the bold resolve of the state attorney, Kenneth Lewis will no longer be allowed to serve the state of Florida
Lewis’s comments sparked a wave of controversy, as he denounced and lambasted the city while victims from the horrific shooting were still being tended to. In his comments, Lewis referred to downtown Orlando as “a melting pot of third world miscreants and ghetto thugs.” Lewis further stated that “all Orlando nightclubs should be permanently closed. With or without random gunmen they are zoos; utter cesspools of debauchery.”
Lewis refused to apologize for his comments, despite a swell of protests including this ForceChange petition. State Attorney Jeff Ashton, who initially suspended Lewis, decided that such unapologetic behavior was unbecoming of a state official and terminated Lewis’s employment.
Ashton deserves to be applauded for this bold move. Sign the petition below to thank him for removing such a vile and hateful man from a position of influence.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Mr. Ashton,
I am writing to commend your recent decision to fire Kenneth Lewis. Mr. Lewis’s shocking and offensive comments were entirely unbecoming of a state official. To insult and demean victims of such a horrific attack (on the same day, no less) is insensitive, cruel, and unacceptable.
Mr. Lewis’s refusal to apologize proves his disappointing ignorance and intolerance, and I understand that terminating his employment must have been a tough decision. Thank you for having the courage to remove such a vile and hateful man from your state’s legislative community.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
