Success: Federal Judge Denies Request to Block Syrian Refugees

Target: U.S. District Court Judge David Godbey

Goal: Applaud that Syrian refugees will not be blocked from resettling in Texas.

Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Don’t Block Syrian Refugees from Entering the U.S., a federal judge has denied Texas’s request to prevent Syrian refugees from resettling in the state. The request by Texas aimed to stop nine Syrian refugees who were due to soon be resettled.

Texas tried to argue that that terrorists could have infiltrated the Syrian refugees in order to get into the state and commit violence and terror. However, the court said that Texas failed to show any real evidence that terrorists had infiltrated the refugee program, “much less that these particular refugees are terrorists intent on causing harm.”

We need to stop treating Syrian refugees, who are trying to flee the very violence and terror that we fear, as if they are the ones to be afraid of. We must align with our humanitarian and moral values and work to accept these people and protect them from the persecution they face back at home.

Applaud this step towards helping refugees and truly fighting terrorism with love and compassion.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Judge Godbey,

You recently denied the request of Texas to block nine Syrian refugees from resettling on the state because Texas failed to show any real evidence, besides ridiculous and somewhat racist fear, that these people were coming to Texas to cause harm.

These people are looking for help in order to escape the very terrorists that these Texas officials fear. It’s vital that we don’t turn our back on these refugees so that they can live normal lives and even help in the fight against the evil terrorists we all wish to conquer.

The best way to conquer them is with compassion and caring, and you have helped to do just that.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
