Success: Los Angeles to Accept Syrian Refugees

Target: Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors

Goal: Applaud city for welcoming Syrian refugees with open arms.

Refugees fleeing persecution and violence in their home countries, including Syria, will be welcomed into Los Angeles thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Allow Syrian Refugees Into the U.S.

The Los Angeles county board of supervisors voted three to two in favor of officially welcoming Syrian refugees to the county and city. The topic of Syrian refugees has been a controversial one, as some feel the refugees pose a threat of terrorism to the U.S.

Others in favor of welcoming the refugees say we must not turn our backs on these vulnerable people who are simply trying to escape the kind of terrorism we are trying to prevent from coming here. Some say that turning our backs on the refugees is just what these terrorist groups want us to do–that way they have fuel to help radicalize people who are left with no other options.

It’s vital that we recognize the humanitarian crisis that these refugees are facing and that we uphold our moral values of helping those in need. Applaud Los Angeles for upholding those values by welcoming Syrian refugees.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors,

I am writing to applaud you for officially deciding to welcome Syrian refugees into Los Angeles. These refugees are fleeing violence, persecution and terrorism back home and are relying on those around the world to step up and help them in their time of need.

While many want to turn their backs on these innocent people because of fear, you have decided to step up and be an example of humanitarian values by accepting these people with open arms and pledging to help them escape the very violence we fear coming here to the U.S.

Thank you for taking a stand to help these vulnerable people.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
