Target: Ursula Jones Dickson, Alameda County, CA District Attorney
Goal: Hold accountable those allegedly responsible for the brutal treatment and killing of over 900 dogs at Miranda’s Rescue.
An investigation into Miranda’s Rescue has unveiled horrifying allegations of systemic cruelty and neglect resulting in the sorrowful deaths of hundreds of dogs. As reported, authorities discovered the lifeless body of a dog named Zora, along with more than a hundred other dogs buried in a mass grave. Many of these animals were reportedly shot to death, with the site marked by gruesome evidence of blood spatter.
Evidence suggests that between January 2025 and April 2026, over 900 dogs were sent to Miranda’s Rescue by various shelters that provided approximately $510,000 in funding for their care. Instead of receiving protection and safety, these homeless animals were allegedly subjected to a torturous existence, warehoused in kennels for far too long, and ultimately exterminated in a horrific manner.
The cruelty reportedly exhibited at Miranda’s Rescue is emblematic of a broader issue within animal welfare systems—a cycle that perpetuates suffering and death. The community must lobby for accountability, and effective measures must be taken to ensure that shelters are safeguarding animals instead of mishandling or neglecting them.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear DA Dickson,
The tragic case of Miranda’s Rescue and the alleged atrocities committed against over 900 dogs cannot go unnoticed. The reported discovery of the dog Zora’s body alongside more than a hundred other dogs in a mass grave, with veterinary evidence suggesting these innocent beings were shot, starkly underscores an urgent need for immediate intervention and accountability.
We urge you to take swift action in investigating and holding those responsible for the alleged cruelty at Miranda’s Rescue accountable for their actions. It is vital that appropriate punishments be enforced to prevent further tragedies. Our community calls upon you to protect the lives of these vulnerable animals by ensuring that such neglect and cruelty do not go unpunished.
Sincerely,
