Temu: Stop Selling Fur Products Linked to Horrific Animal Cruelty

Target: Colin Huang, Founder of Temu

Goal: Stop the sale of fur, wild-animal skins, and angora products on Temu’s platform to protect animals from brutal treatment and slaughter.

The fur industry is notorious for its cruel treatment of animals, exposing them to horrific conditions that cause immense suffering. Minks, foxes, and other fur-bearing animals are confined to filthy wire cages, where they live in complete deprivation, often developing severe psychological stress and untreated wounds. When these animals are killed they face gruesome deaths, being gassed, electrocuted, or having their necks broken. These barbaric practices contribute to a cycle of violence that exploits sentient beings and treats them as disposable commodities.

Although Etsy and other major retailers have made the ethical decision to ban fur, Temu has seemingly made a troubling choice to fill its marketplace with products derived from fur and other cruel sources, including wild-animal skins and angora. Animals in these industries are subjected to brutal treatment, exploited for profit, and ultimately face violent deaths. For example, angora rabbits endure painful hair extraction processes, and crocodiles are kept in cramped conditions before being slaughtered. This legacy of violence and suffering demands urgent attention.

Change is not just necessary; it is an ethical imperative. Consumers increasingly reject products that stem from cruelty, and many companies, including Etsy, have responded by eliminating these items from their offerings. Temu has the opportunity and obligation to join this compassionate movement and protect animals by implementing a fur-free policy. Therefore, the demand is clear: Temu must ban the sale of fur, wild-animal skins, and angora products from its platform.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear CEO Colin Huang,

As concerned consumers, it is deeply alarming to learn that Temu continues to allow the sale of fur, wild-animal skins, and angora on its platform. These practices are linked to horrific cruelty and violence inflicted on animals who suffer throughout their lives in deplorable conditions. Minks and foxes are kept in filthy cages, exposed to untreated injuries, and eventually face gruesome deaths at the hands of the fur industry. The treatment of these sentient beings is unacceptable and should not be supported by any marketplace, especially one as widely accessed as Temu.

The ethical implications of profiting from industries that treat animals as mere commodities cannot be ignored. Angora rabbits endure violent hair extraction processes that leave them in pain, while crocodiles suffer in cramped concrete pits before their lives are brutally ended. This kind of exploitation is contrary to compassionate values that consumers are advocating for today. It’s time for Temu to take a stand for animal welfare and join the ranks of responsible companies that have committed to banning these inhumane products.

We urge you to implement a ban on the sale of fur, wild-animal skins, and angora products on your platform. By doing so, Temu can demonstrate its commitment to ethical practices and the well-being of animals, aligning your marketplace with the values of countless compassionate consumers. Until such a commitment is made, many customers will be forced to seek alternatives that do not compromise on animal welfare.

Sincerely,
