Demand Justice for Community Cat Dead From Horrific Injuries

Target: LOH Khum Yean, Chairman National Parks Board of Singapore

Goal: Ensure justice for the brutal abuse and death of Shere Khan, the community cat, by urging stringent penalties for those responsible for his injuries.

The heartbreaking case surrounding the death of a community cat named Shere Khan demands urgent attention and action. Discovered with horrifying injuries that suggest deliberate and severe abuse, Shere Khan’s demise has been described by local animal welfare advocates as “one of the most brutal” they have encountered. The male tabby cat was found near Block 326B Sumang Walk in Punggol, clearly having suffered immensely prior to his tragic end. The evidence of abuse is shocking, raising significant concerns about animal safety in the area and the urgent need for accountability.

Further examination of Shere Khan’s injuries revealed numerous signs indicating extreme cruelty. Medical reports indicate harmful conditions such as bilateral proptosis, where both of his eyes protruded dangerously from their sockets, as well as swelling and lacerations on his tongue, superficial bruising, and lesions on his head. The cat’s hypothermic and dehydrated state upon reaching the veterinary facility suggested not only physical violence but also extensive neglect that led to prolonged suffering. Tragically, despite the immediate intervention from veterinary professionals, Shere Khan succumbed to his injuries, underscoring the severity of the alleged violence inflicted upon him.

The undeniable pain expressed by animal lovers and advocates in response to this incident highlights the growing need for stricter laws and consequences regarding animal cruelty in Singapore. This petition calls upon the National Parks Board to take decisive action to find and punish the person who harmed Shere Khan, ensuring that justice is served.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chairman,

The recent case of the community cat Shere Khan has shaken our community to its core. Found with brutal injuries that indicate severe abuse and neglect, Shere Khan’s tragic fate, which included horrifying medical conditions, has amplified concerns about animal safety in our neighborhoods. His cruel suffering and ultimate death illustrate a broader issue of animal cruelty that must be addressed with urgency.

Shere Khan suffered from grievous injuries such as bilateral proptosis, extensive bruising, lacerations, and signs consistent with strangulation or blunt force trauma. The community rallied to support him through donations, yet despite these efforts, Shere Khan did not survive. This heartbreaking incident, alongside another reported case of cat abuse shortly before, underscores the alarming reality of animal violence in our society and calls for immediate investigation and action from your office.

We urge the National Parks Board to ensure thorough investigations into these incidents, coupled with appropriate punishment for anyone found responsible for Shere Khan’s suffering. It is imperative to send a clear message that such acts of cruelty will not be tolerated. Together, we can uphold the values of compassion and justice for all animals in Singapore.

Sincerely,
