Success: Suspicious Police Shooting to Be Probed by Special Prosecutor

Target: Honorable Vincent M. Gaughan, Circuit Judge of Cook County

Goal: Celebrate appointment of special prosecutor in the controversial Laquan McDonald case.

After being gunned down by Chicago police, Laquan McDonald may be one step closer to justice after overwhelming public pressure and newly released video evidence led a Chicago-area judge to appoint a neutral investigator in McDonald’s case. Ever since the incident, McDonald’s death has raised plenty of questions about police misconduct, and this new development will hopefully bring closure to the tragic death.

Judge Vincent Gaughan made the decision after several inconsistencies and troubling reports began surrounding the case. Responding officers claimed that McDonald lunged at them with a knife, but dashboard camera footage clearly shows McDonald walking away from officers when the fatal shots were fired.

As seen in this ForceChange petition, there have also been reports of alleged witness intimidation. At least three witnesses claim to have been threatened by police who wanted them to change their stories.

The contradictory footage and alleged intimidation attempts strongly suggest that Laquan McDonald may have been wrongfully killed. Sign the petition below to thank Judge Gaughan for his efforts to uncover the truth.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Judge Gaughan,

I am writing to commend your recent decision to appoint a special investigator in the Laquan McDonald case. From the start, this young man’s tragic death has been plagued by questions and inconsistencies. The young man’s friends and family deserve to know the truth and the responding officers must be held accountable if it is proven that they acted in an illegal manner.

The contradictory dashboard footage and alleged witness intimidation attempts suggest that someone is trying to hide the truth, and your recent decision is a huge step toward uncovering what really happened on that night. Thank you for your resolve.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
