Don’t Derail Sustainability Progress in National Parks

Target: Members of the United States Senate

Goal: Oppose National Park Service nominee with ties to a corporation accused of unsustainable and inhumane practices.

The Trump administration’s nomination of Scott Socha, a business executive with decades of experience in the food and hospitality industry, to lead the National Park Service raises serious concerns. Among these are Socha’s connections to Delaware North, a company accused of failing to embrace sustainability in its dining initiatives within national parks. This apparent negligence stands in stark contrast to other national park operators who have successfully implemented measurable plant-based offerings, achieving goals of 50% plant-based menus to cater to millions of visitors. It is crucial that the National Park Service encourages all operators, including Delaware North, to commit to sustainable practices that support both wildlife and public health.

Delaware North has not made a public commitment to enhance its dining offerings to include plant-based options. This lack of action not only undermines the efforts of other national park concessionaires who are leading the charge for healthier and more environmentally friendly dining, but also poses a risk to the reputation of national parks as stewards of the environment.

The public deserves to enjoy the beauty of nature while doing so in a manner that respects and protects our environment. Call on members of the U.S. Senate to reject Socha’s nomination.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear U.S. Senators,

The recent nomination of Scott Socha to lead the National Park Service is deeply worrying. His connections to Delaware North, a company that lacks a commitment to sustainable dining practices, raise serious concerns. While other companies doing business in national parks have embraced initiatives to offer at least 50% plant-based meals, Delaware North has lagged behind, compromising efforts to promote health and environmental sustainability.

The absence of plant-based dining options not only fails to align with the growing shift towards sustainable eating but endangers the efforts made by other concessionaires who are taking substantial steps to reduce their environmental footprints. The health of our visitors and the preservation of our ecosystems depend on this commitment.

To ensure the enduring beauty and integrity of our national parks, we urge you to reject Mr. Socha’s nomination.

Sincerely,
