Alarming reports recently emerged from Ayer, where a 78-year-old woman has been convicted of 30 counts of animal cruelty. Ruth Maxant-Schulz was found guilty after a disturbing investigation uncovered horrific conditions on her property, which included numerous dead animals and severe neglect of over 150 others. Police arrived to find goats, ponies, and ducks roving freely outside, alongside tragic sights of dead baby goats littered throughout her home, all indicative of a cruel situation that demanded immediate attention and intervention.
Inside the home, officers discovered rooms filled with trash and animal feces, and many animals were reported to be lacking basic necessities such as food and water. Over the course of the investigation, a total of 162 animals were seized, with many requiring immediate medical attention for dire conditions, including emaciation, broken limbs, and infestations.
These atrocities cannot be overlooked nor tolerated. It is imperative that the prosecution seeks suitable and just punishment for Ruth Maxant-Schulz’s alleged cruelty, not only in light of the suffering endured by these animals but also to serve as a strong message that such neglect will face serious consequences.
