Target: Shasta County Sheriff and Shasta District Fair Officials
Goal: Hold accountable those responsible for the seizure and slaughter of a beloved pet goat, Cedar.
The distressing case of a young girl in Northern California, whose cherished pet goat Cedar was seized by sheriff’s deputies and taken to slaughter, has drawn national attention. According to reports, the girl faced threats of criminal charges from fair representatives, claiming ownership of Cedar even after the girl had saved him from the auction block. The subsequent seizure and tragic outcome, wherein Cedar was reportedly slaughtered despite the girl’s attempts to protect him, emphasize the potential for grave injustices within animal custody disputes and the enforcement of purported laws.
As detailed in the lawsuit, Cedar was more than just property; he was a family member cherished by the young girl who cared for him daily. With Cedar auctioned off and his meat sold, the emotional and physical toll on the girl and her family has been profound. The legal battle that ensued highlighted numerous alleged missteps by both law enforcement and fair officials, raising concerns about how animals are treated under the law and the inherent value of pet companionship in society.
The incident underscores the urgent necessity for an investigation into the actions of Shasta County and its sheriff’s department, among others. The demand is clear: those responsible for this heartbreaking event should face appropriate penalties and reforms should be implemented to ensure such a mismanagement of animal custody does not happen again. Accountability is critical, and this case serves as a pivotal moment for reform in animal welfare legislation and practices.
PETITION LETTER:
To the Shasta County Sheriff and Shasta District Fair Officials,
The heartbreaking seizure and subsequent slaughter of Cedar, a beloved pet goat belonging to a young girl, raises severe questions about the treatment of animals in legal custody. Reports suggest that Cedar was forcibly taken from the girl after she decided against selling him at an auction, despite her clear affection and commitment to him as a family member. The threats allegedly made by fair officials that the girl would face charges of grand theft if she did not relinquish Cedar only compound this distressing situation.
This unacceptable series of events culminated in Cedar being sold for meat, stripping away the girl’s right to protect her pet and leading to irreversible emotional harm. Cedar’s tragic fate as he was auctioned off for meat seems to reflect a concerning disregard for obligations owed to animals, who, according to the lawsuit, are recognized as family by their owners. It is imperative that those responsible for this incident are held accountable to prevent such injustice in the future.
We call for an investigation and appropriate punishment for the individuals involved in this case, as well as comprehensive reforms to ensure the dignity and rights of animals are respected. It is vital that robust systems are in place to prioritize animal welfare over bureaucratic mishandlings.
Sincerely,

Typical little Hitlers in the Sheriffs department and the Fair organisers! Little cowardly thugs who seek to make themselves look big and important by murdering a girl’s pet goat! Well, they only make themselves look like the heartless monsters that they are! Fire them all and award that poor girl a whole pile of money to go some way to compensating her for her everlasting broken heart. Too late to do anything for poor little Cedar! Evil Monsters!
Humans don’t kill, torture, maim, slaughter, destroy, harm, etc. enough animals, they had to take this little 9 year old’s pet goat and kill him too??? That’s all humans do is KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL.
