Target: Gina McCarthy, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Resources Defense Council
Goal: Praise efforts to stop the construction of community-poisoning pipeline.
Dominion Energy and Duke Energy have announced the cancellation of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline project, a natural gas pipeline which would have emitted pollution and damaged communities across West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. This represents an encouraging and significant victory for working class communities, environmentalists, and those who signed this petition.
The pipeline would have run through poor and disadvantaged towns and communities to carry destructive natural gas throughout the interior of the southeastern United States. It also would have crossed the territory of a number of Native American groups, offering significant profits for energy concerns while disrupting and damaging communities along the way.
Sign the petition below to praise the efforts of active community members and the groups coordinating their work.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Mrs. McCarthy,
The construction of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline would have promoted and enabled the production of natural gas, which is known to poison water supplies and air, harm wildlife, and destabilize working class communities.
The efforts of your group and your allies have paid off in making the project an impossibility for those who hoped to profit off of destruction. Residents of small communities in three states have been given reason to believe that their voices can be heard and that they have the power to fight those who would destroy their homes. Thank you, and all your colleagues, for your ceaseless efforts.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
