Target: Abigail Dillen, President of Earthjustice
Goal: Support stopping logging companies from destroying Tongass National Forest.
The fight to save Tongass National Forest from logging companies received a major victory, as U.S. District Judge Sharon Gleason filed an injunction to stop it. With the new preliminary ruling, it stopped the sale of 1,100 acres of forest land that should be protected.
According to Earthjustice attorney Olivia Glasscock, “In a victory for the Tongass National Forest, today’s court ruling has spared nearly 1,200 acres of irreplaceable old-growth rainforest from chainsaws and roads – at least for now.”
This may not be the end of the fight, but it definitely means the voices in this ForceChange petition are being heard and that we can win the fight to stop this national forest from being destroyed.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Ms. Dillan,
Thank you for doing what you can to slow down the Trump administration’s work with the logging industry to destroy our national forests. The court injunction that was filed thanks to your organization’s advocacy, sparing almost 1,200 acres of old-growth rainforest, is a big step in the right direction to fighting back against this industry.
Losing a forest like this would do immeasurable harm to our ecosystem and cannot be allowed to happen. Thank you for your efforts to stop the logging industry from getting its way and destroying our beautiful forests.
Sincerely,
