Target: Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina
Goal: Applaud the withdrawal of Andrew Puzder from consideration for secretary of labor.
CEO of Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. Andrew Puzder has withdrawn from consideration for the position of secretary of labor. This move comes in the wake of dissent by Republican senators and outspoken criticism from Democrats pointing to accusations of wage theft and systematic sexual harassment at both Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. Furthermore, Puzder himself has faced allegations of domestic abuse and is an outspoken opponent of raising the minimum wage.
While opposition in the senate ended Mr. Puzder’s nomination, this opposition was only possible due to political pressure in the form of public outcry, letters, calls, and petitions such as these at Force Change. While there are still challenges ahead, his withdrawal represents a victory for the rights of workers and women. Sign our petition toapplaud the end of Andrew Puzder’s nomination for secretary of labor.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Senator Scott,
I was pleased to hear that you expressed concerns over the nomination of Andrew Puzder to the post of secretary of labor. I believe that your comments contributed to the withdrawal of Andrew Puzder as a nominee. Given his inability to disentangle himself from business interests and the numerous allegations of wage theft and systemic sexual harassment at both Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr., I believe that Mr. Puzder was a wholly inappropriate choice for secretary of labor.
Moving forward, the executive branch must not be allowed to act without regard for the constitution or what is best for Americans. Moral and constitutional issues must not become partisan issues. I urge you to work with your colleagues on both sides of the aisle to hold this administration to account.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
