Target: Maryland Governor Larry Hogan
Goal: Applaud ban on dangerous and environmentally unfriendly pesticides.
Harmful pesticides that have contributed to the deaths of countless bees will no longer be allowed in Maryland thanks to a new state-wide ban. Starting in 2018, consumer use of neonicotinoid pesticides will be expressly forbidden, with only a few minor exceptions.
The legislation makes Maryland the first state to implement such a ban and comes as a result of worries that neonicotinoid pesticides are a cause of rapidly dwindling bee populations. The urgency of the situation has become a national talking point, as seen in this petition on ForceChange. Bees are dying at an unsustainable rate, and multiple studies have made clear the link between their deaths and the use of dangerous pesticides.
This progressive measure from Maryland’s legislators is an extremely encouraging sign. Sign the petition below to thank the governor for enacting the new law and recognizing the importance of proper environmental practices.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Governor Hogan,
I am writing to applaud the recent passing of S.B. 198/H.B. 211, a bill that bans harmful pesticides. By becoming the first state to institute such a ban, you and your fellow state legislators have scored a major victory for conservationists across the nation.
America’s bees are dying off at an unsustainable rate, and multiple studies have linked this population decrease to the use of pesticides. Your support of this bill shows that you recognize the seriousness of the situation and are willing to work towards a solution for a healthier planet. Thank you for allowing this bill to become law.
Sincerely,

Many thanks to Governor Hogan for taking this step. I hope you are the first of all other governors to ban these pesticides (I doubt whether our Gov. LePage will follow suit, though). It is a very crucially-needed move to have made.
Thank you. ?
