Target: Senator Fran Pavley and Senator Benjamin Allen
Goal: Praise California Senators for proposing strict regulations after hazardous gas leak.
After a horrific gas leak in California, the ForceChange community demanded the company responsible be held accountable. The well has been ordered to shut down and a legislative package has been drafted that makes SoCalGas pay for the harmful impact they had on the Porter Ranch community and our environment. It also creates stricter regulations to protect public health.
The proposed package forces SoCalGas to pay for emergency costs and the relocation of families. They must also establish a fund to offset the amount of dangerous greenhouse gases that were released during the leak. New safety and inspection standards would also be mandated to prevent and quickly detect any future leaks.
California’s state senate has the responsibility to take care of its residents and the environment. This draft of legislation shows that they have listened to their outcries and the support we drafted here on ForceChange. Let’s show our continued support and thanks to the authors of these bills, Senator Fran Pavley and Senator Benjamin Allen.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Senators Pavley and Allen,
Thank you for drafting legislation that holds SoCalGas accountable for the damage they have done in the Porter Ranch community. It’s good to know that the people have a voice bigger than corporations. With stricter regulations we can ensure that a travesty like this never happens in California again. By having the polluters, not the public, pay for damages, you set a precedent that the whole world should follow.
Thank you and your coauthors for drafting bills that protect the innocent people of Los Angeles. I encourage you to continue on your quest for environmental safety and the well-being of all California residents.
Sincerely,
