Target: Donald L. Cupps, Chairman of the University of Missouri Board of Curators
Goal: Applaud the hiring of a pro-diversity black civil rights attorney as interim president for a university system that has been plagued with racism.
The Board of Curators has appointed African-American University of Missouri alumnus Mike Middleton as Interim President of the university system thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Hire New University of Missouri President Who Will Tackle Racism.
Middleton had recently retired from working to improve inclusion and diversity within campus activities. He has 30 years of leadership experience on the MU campus and worked in the past as a civil rights attorney.
Middleton’s appointment comes shortly after former president Tim Wolfe resigned amid complaints that he was not properly addressing racism on campus. Applaud the appointment of Mike Middleton, who will be more conscious of social justice issues and racism on campus.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Chairman Cupps,
After complaints of racism on University of Missouri campuses were not properly addressed by former president Tim Wolfe, it was vital that the board of curators found a new president who will tackle racism. I believe you have done that with the appointment of Mike Middleton.
Not only is he an alumnus, he worked at the University of Missouri for 30 years, has worked on improving diversity and inclusion on campus and has worked as a civil rights attorney in the past. I applaud you for hiring someone who is well-equipped to tackle racism and other social injustices on campus.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
