Urge Corporate Giant to End Animal Testing

Target: Alex Gorsky, CEO of Johnson & Johnson

Goal: End the use of animal testing done by Johnson & Johnson and its subsidaries

Johnson & Johnson is a multi-billion dollar company – the worlds sixth-largest consumer health corporation.  Although the European Union has banned the sale of products that have been tested on animals and India and China are not far behind in this effort, the United States unfortunately has not followed suit. Since its incipience, Johnson and Johnson has used animal testing in making its products. Demand this organization stop its cruel product testing on innocent animals.

Johnson & Johnson gathered thousands of dogs, monkeys, rabbits, and rodents and poisoned them in order to test the effects of Sucralose – a sugar – on living organisms. On top of this, the way humans and animals react to external products and chemicals are completely different, which renders these studies not only immoral but invalid.  Johnson & Johnson has also been known to burn the corneas of rabbits in order to test certain chemicals they want to use in their products, but there is a direct alternative method which uses cornea-like 3-D tissue produced from human cells so no animal or human can be harmed.

There are many alternatives Johnson & Johnson could use instead of animal testing. The animal support group PETA has several stockholders in Johnson & Johnson and has given multiple resolutions spanning over 10 years as a compromise to using animal testing.  One of those being ‘Give the Animals 5’, which was proposed in 2004 and it consisted of Johnson & Johnson curtailing 5 cruel testing methods on animals to replace them with scientifically valid state-of-the-art non-animal testing methods that are already successful and in use in other countries. Johnson & Johnson opposed this suggestion giving the excuse that it is necessary and governmentally mandated they use those particular tests for their proven validity.

By signing the petition below you are calling on Alex Gorsky, the CEO of Johnson & Johnson to accept responsibility for the inhumane and unnecessary practice of testing their products and chemicals on innocent animals. There are many alternatives to animal testing that do not involve the harm of any living creature, Johnson & Johnson must end their abuse and murder of animals and adopt safe testing methods.

Dear Alex Gorsky,

Since Johnson & Johnson has opened its doors in 1886 the abuse and murder of animals has been used in order for profit.  Although you yourself did not start this trend, you certainly are perpetuating its vicious cycle. Thousands upon thousands of dogs, rodents, and rabbits have been poisoned and killed to test the effects of Sucralose.  A frighteningly large amount of rabbits have had their corneas burned in order to test chemicals, that could have easily been tested on cornea-like 3-D tissues produced by human cells. If this alternative method would have been used not only a more accurate finding would be warranted, but also no innocent lives would be brutally affected.

Your own shareholders have given resolutions to your outdated practices and yet you refuse to acknowledge their validity. One of those resolutions being “Give the Animals 5”.  Essentially, this resolution calls on Johnson & Johnson to curtail 5 crude and cruel animal testing practices to be replaced with state-of-the-art and scientifically valid non-animal testing methods that are already being used in other countries, with high outcomes of success.

Mr. Gorsky, it is truly unethical and immoral that you are still allowing these outdated practices to continue.  Being that there are many alternatives to animal testing which heed a more effective result, these should be taken into serious consideration and implemented into Johnson & Johnson testing methods.  I implore you to end animal testing once and for all in your company and to adopt safer and more effective alternative methods for testing your harmful chemicals and products.

  1. …..there are certain companies we still need to stay clear of…L’Oreal of course, Unilever, Procter and Gamble are all notorious for animal testing…they make a lot of products that are old favourites with many people, like Oil of Ulay/Olay,& Herbal Essences Shampoo – which has been tested on pregnant animals, causing the babies to die! egs I once sent an email to Nivea, asking them if they tested on animals, but received no reply! Even old fashioned herbal soap Pears has probably been tested on animals as its made by Unilever……Sainsbury’s, Asda, Superdrug and M&S are committed to, no animal testing though…..If its not labelled ‘Not Tested on Animals’, assume it is……

We are in the 20th Century just sad to see all over the world the lack of care for other lifes except our own.

  3. Katy Manley says:

What the hell? Who are these people. The same should be done to them. God did not create animals to be tortured….that is sick

  4. “Those who experiment on animals should never be able to quiet their own conscience by telling themselves that these cruelties have a worthy aim.”
