Condemn Release of Child Rapist

italian emblem

Target: Ferdinando Imposimato, Honorary President of the Supreme Court of Italy

Goal: Condemn Italian Supreme Court’s decision to release known child rapist

A sixty-year-old Italian man, Pietro Lamberti, was sentenced to five years in prison after he was discovered in bed with an eleven-year-old girl. Lamberti was a social services worker in Catanzaro, Italy, which makes the case even more insidious. Lamberti was hired to help the young girl and instead he used his position to gain her trust and then exploit her. The Italian papers said that, “the girl came from a poor family who had known and trusted the social worker.” But now the Italian courts are overturning Lamberti’s sentence, claiming that new evidence shows Lamberti and the girl had an “amorous relationship” and that the verdict did not sufficiently take into account the “consensus” or the “absence of physical force” or “the girl’s feelings of love.”

The overturning of this verdict is an outrage. Pietro Lamberti was in a position of power and control over an eleven-year-old girl, who is not capable of legally consenting no matter what her feelings on the matter, even if “feelings of love” from a manipulated child can even qualify as consent. This sixty-year-old man knew exactly what he was doing and how to take advantage of his situation.

Italian police originally arrested Lamberti after a wire-tapping stakeout. Every reasonable adult in this situation was well aware that what the man was committing was rape of a minor. The absence of physical force has no bearing on the case, nor has it any bearing on many rape cases. This is the institutional perpetuation of the myth that all rapes are committed violently by strangers in dark alleys, and it is unacceptable for a national court to be deciding cases based on such flawed and stereotyped logic.

This little girl deserves justice for the horrific act of sexual and emotional manipulation that she has endured. She will suffer the rest of her life from the confusing aftermath of this tragic crime. Please sign this petition to condemn the Italian Supreme Court for its absurd and offensive overturning of this verdict.

Dear Ferdinando Imposimato and the Supreme Court of Italy,

Recently, you and your peers have overturned a verdict condemning a known child rapist to five years in prison. The absurd reasoning for this judgment was the alleged love between the perpetrator, Pietro Lamberti, and his eleven-year-old victim. This decision is outrageous and dangerous, and overlooks decades of psychological research.

Lamberti is a grown man working in a position of power and control over children with the ability to manipulate and coerce them by gaining their trust and the trust of their families. This is exactly what Lamberti did, and exactly what many pedophiles do to lure their victims into a false sense of security. The girl’s feelings for the man are a result of this coercion and manipulation. She is not able to consent to an adult relationship by any means, and her rapist’s verdict should never have been overturned on these grounds.

Please correct your misguided decision and educate yourselves on the psychology of rape victims and rapists before you ruin more lives with these horrible verdicts.
