Urge Queen Elizabeth to Ditch Fur

Target: Queen Elizabeth II, United Kingdom

Goal: Support animal welfare by no longer wearing fur

The fur industry has been a problem for animal rights since it was industrialized and raising animals for fur became common. Animals are strangled, electrocuted, and skinned alive for their hides or pelts. This deplorable practice has resulted in boycotts of the fur industry by many prominent figures including Sir Paul McCartney. Still, some people have yet to change their values.

Queen Elizabeth was photographed on Christmas Day wearing a fur coat. Fur farming has been illegal in the UK since 2000, but Queen Elizabeth has worn fur for many years and has a number of fur coats and hats. A particular fur coat is one of her favorite clothing pieces and she’s been pictured wearing it since 1961. Nevertheless, the Queen must make this sacrifice to help prevent further animal abuse.

The Queen’s popularity and prolific appearances on TV and on the web make it imperative that she donate the fur coat to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Even though we can’t save the animals that are a part of her wardrobe, Her Majesty’s presence as a symbol of affluence and wealth will encourage others to feel extravagant or royal by buying fur.

In addition, many people in Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, and Canada, respect the Queen as an important representative of their culture, heritage, or nation. If the Queen were to make a public decision to forego fur and respect animal rights, it would change, or begin to change, many minds around the world.

Your Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II,

I am writing to express concern over your choice to continue to wear fur. You were recently photographed wearing a fur coat, said to be one of your favorites, to a Christmas Day service.

Fur farming has been illegal in the United Kingdom since 2000 so you are likely aware of the terrible treatment animals receive due to the fur industry. As a reminder, animals are regularly strangled, electrocuted and skinned alive for their pelts. This deplorable practice must end and you can help.

Please use your position as a prominent public figure to endorse animal rights by donating your fur coats to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ campaign to give fur coats to the homeless. Vast numbers of your subjects respect your opinion and your elegance; let them know that the fur industry’s practices are unacceptable.
