Stop Inhumane Sea Turtle Farming

Target: Cayman Turtle Farm

Goal: Stop raising endangered sea turtles for consumption at cramped and inhumane turtle farm

In the wild, sea turtles are solitary, peaceful animals that only interact with one another when mating season comes around. But at the Cayman Turtle Farm, where sea turtles are forced to dwell in cramped, filthy tanks, this tranquil and harmless creature turns violent and carnivorous. The Cayman Turtle Farm is the only place left on earth that breeds sea turtles for human consumption and exploitation.

Stressful living conditions cause sea turtles to turn on each other, biting and maiming one another, leaving injuries that are ignored by Cayman Turtle Farm staff. Visitors are encouraged to inspect sea turtles before purchasing them; removing them from the tanks, shaking and weighing them are common practices. In-breeding also causes major problems at the turtle farm. The result? Turtles born with dilapidated skeletons, uneven fins and even without eyes.

Animal rights groups have lobbied endlessly to shut down the Cayman Turtle Farm, to no avail. The sea turtles on the farm are rarely if ever cleaned, and open wounds from attacking each other leave the water teeming with disease. How anyone can witness, let alone eat, such injured sea turtles is unfathomable. By signing this petition you’ll urge the Cayman Turtle Farm to stop this inhumane practice and release the sea turtles back into the wild where they belong.

Dear Cayman Turtle Farm,

In the pursuit of profit, you’ve treated wild sea turtles inhumanely by placing them in cramped, disease ridden cages and tanks. Sea turtles have been ruled an endangered species, and your farm is the only one left on earth that continues to breed them for human consumption. And for that, you should be thoroughly ashamed.

The sea turtle is a peaceful creature that enjoys being solitary and only interacts with other turtles during the mating season. By forcing these sea turtles to live and socialize with one another on a daily basis you’ve stressed them out to the point of cannibalism. What’s more is that your farm encourages in-breeding, causing sea turtles to be born with harrowing deformities. How, may I ask, does this seem right to you?

Sea turtles belong in the wild, not on your farm to be sold as steaks and burgers. I urge you to release these creatures immediately and shut down your hellish facility.
