Target: Marci Fukuroda, Director of Legal Services at Rainbow Services

Goal: Commend organization for providing domestic violence solutions to low-income households

Domestic violence is a problem that runs rampant in society. It crosses all socio-economic and cultural lines, arising in even the most unexpected situations. While domestic violence affects wealthier and poorer populations to the same degree, the way a man or woman reacts to this abuse can be very different depending on social class. Rainbow Services is a small organization in Southern California that makes a big difference for people in need. It makes it possible for people of all socio-economic classes to have the opportunity to protect themselves from domestic violence. Though it might have a small staff, it makes a tremendous difference.

In wealthier populations, the victim often has the financial resources to seek out legal or psychological assistance. However, this is not the case for poorer populations. Rainbow Services bridges this inequality by making legal and psychological services available to poorer populations. The fact that Rainbow Services provides both legal and psychological assistance makes it unique.

For situations in which there is domestic violence, the immediately practical dynamics are to remove the victim from the situation, which Rainbow Services assists with. In addition, it also provides for more long term considerations, such as psychological well being. Sign this petition to support Rainbow Services in its effort to provide protection to more vulnerable populations.

Dear Ms. Fukuroda, Director of Legal Services at Rainbow Services

Rainbow Services addresses a serious problem that exists in society today: the fact that under-served populations are particularly vulnerable to domestic violence. Many victims of domestic violence are not in the United States legally, and as a result fear being deported. However, according to the Violence Against Women Protection Act (VAWA), victims do have the right to be protected from domestic violence, even if not in the country legally. Rainbow Services not only informs domestic violence victims or their rights, but also actively helps them to protect those rights.

Additionally, Rainbow Services carries out the important work of helping victims to adjust their immigration status in the United States, if necessary. Rainbow Services also offers support to abused men and women when they otherwise would not have anywhere else to turn. Please continue to carry out this incredibly important work.
