Target: Energy Secretary Ed Davey
Goal: Praise energy plant Drax for their switch from coal to biomass
Britain’s largest coal fired power plant, Drax, is completing a switch to biomass this month. This will make it Europe’s biggest renewable electricity generator. The 700 million Euro conversion project – dubbed White Rose – will have the factory burn wood pellets instead of coal, reducing carbon emissions by eighty percent. The new wood burning facility will provide energy to one million homes and safeguard the 1,200 jobs that are currently present in the local community.
The British government is eager for energy plants to convert from coal to biomass because it is trying to protect consumers from the rising prices of gas imported from other countries. This change in fuel consumption will also lower the energy bill of many households by fifty euros a year. Already there are many coal fired power plants mixing renewables, nuclear power, and gas into their energy producing process.
Another study funding the conversion will be design a state-of-the-art coal power plant. The plant will provide clean electricity for 630,000 homes and create 2,000 jobs while safely capturing 90% of its emissions for permanent storage. Both of these projects will support 3,200 jobs in England and provide an infrastructure that will build a clean energy industry in the region.
By switching to an eco-friendly method, this facility has taken a step towards a clean energy industry. As the world grows more and more aware of the dangers of carbon emissions, it is crucial that the public acknowledges those who are going green. Sign this petition and praise the power plant for their conversion to biomass.
Dear Ed Davey,
I would like to thank your company, Drax, for making the switch to burning biomass instead of coal. This conversion ensures that there’s fewer carbon emissions released into our atmosphere; indeed burning wood pellets instead of coal reduces the emission by eighty percent. I realize that this project couldn’t have been completed without the help of the British government and for that I am grateful. It is a relief to know that the government is willing to back an initiative such as this.
I hope the region where your company is based will truly become a clean energy infrastructure and become a model example for other nations and companies to follow. I wish you the best of luck in your company’s endeavors and to keep the planet’s well being in mind.
